Meet Zuania Muñiz-Meléndez
Zuania Muñiz-Meléndez is both a professional photographer and fine art photographer living and working in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Madrid, Spain. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts and Photography from the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras. Her conceptual work has an emphasis on how we relate to nature and the importance of this relationship. She has participated in collective exhibitions in Puerto Rico, in the USA, and in Italy. In 2016 her work received an honorable mention by the International Photography Awards in the Portrait and Fine Art categories. She has also participated in the Cena por el MAC auction and was published Fine Art magazines.
Her art is part of private collections in Puerto Rico, the United States and Europe. She was recently selected to have a Solo Show at the Foundry Art Center in St. Charles, Missouri and recently participated in a group show in a Miami gallery during the Miami Art Basel 2018.
In both of Zuania’s TOROSIETE Museum exhibitions, she has created organic mosaic scupltures out of flowers of Puerto Rico and photographed them. In “d e . t e ɾ . m ĩ ˈ n a . ð̞ o”, Zuania’s sculptures were photographed with the human body. In “Vademécum flora vigorosa”, she constructed new flowers using parts of other flowers and photographed them on their own. Each photograph in both series are true photographs – not digital collages. The flowers in both exhibitions are picked, arranged, and staged with their human model subjects (for ” d e . t e ɾ . m ĩ ˈ n a . ð̞ o”) or on their own (for “Vademécum flora vigorosa”.)
